When the maximum interest rate of fixed term deposit in banks is around 10%, an advertisement in the classified section in one newspaper promises 18% ,take a look:
Golden Opportunity for 100% safe investment Return 18% P.A. Most suitable for Retired Govt. officers. Call us...
How can one claim above investment to be 100% safe? But with inflation cutting pockets of the main street, the lure of high interest is high? Delhi police has placed an advertisement in most newspapers with punch line- " Beware of companies promising big returns on your  investment". It shows a tree with money, further down, extract of one such dubious ad in the background of well-intended caution-" Do not get lured by such Ads". But the larger issue is why newspapers agree to publish such ads? Why no self-regulation here?

8 February 2011

Fake government job advertisements with only mobile numbers as contact point continue to exploit the unemployment scenario and not to forget the greed of newspapers who don't show them the door. These ads are making an appearance in the classified section of leading newspapers in Jaipur too. Take a look at a few ads focused on defense wings:

!!Government jobs!! In army clerks, storekeepers, recruitment of constables by SSC boys-girls, qualifications- tenth (18-25)..

Dubious Advertisement: SARCAJC has been regularly bringing to your notice numerous dubious advertisements in the classified section of leading Hindi newspapers. With newspapers taking no responsibility of their authenticity, the innocent main street is on their own to resist their lure. Take a look at a few:
Immediate requirement in companies in UK/New Zealand for educated, hardworking people good salary+ stay & food free+ air ticket free...
Fail students guaranteed pass 10th, 12th (open/correspondence, CBSE) guaranteed pass in graduation...

Dubious Advertisement:  The developed countries are worrying over high unemployment rate and are trying to tightened immigration policy; however the lure of getting jobs in any of these countries stays intact in India. Take a clue from a dubious advertisement in the classified section in one of the leading newspapers in Delhi:
Work in Canada, Australia, NZ, UK, USA, Germany, Italy food, packing store keeper, computer operator, welder ,driver, electrician, hair dresser, cook, accountant, welder and many more (2 year wok permit)....Agents/Franchisers Welcome.

24 November 2010
Dubious Job Advertisements: The recent governmental survey that revealed high unemployment rate in India has not attracted any fundamental change in policy not even a worrying statement from top governmental circles. The unemployment problem is more acute for females in select states going around 40%.  But even this has not even caught fancy of mainstream media. Nevertheless the dubious jobs advertisements in the classified section of newspapers in Hindi continue to lure the common man. Yes, government jobs are lost sought, take a look:
Government jobs require boys girls for 1163 clerk, 1050 PO in government banks qualification tenth 60 percent, twelfth 50 percent BA pass 18-30..
Government jobs clerk in ARMY, boys girls required for constable in SSB, assistant in forest department qualification tenth, twelfth 18-30 ask for forms..
Government jobs recruitment of clerk ticket collector storekeeper constable firemen, carpenter, plumber cook, helper in railway bank army 18-30 5th, 8th,10th...
Requirement for Metro, Airport token operator, supervisor team leader, ground staff, ticketing boy, airhostess, supervisor...

18 November 2010
Towering Corruption: Following track of CAG on 2G Telecom dealings, all newspapers are following the events on their front page. The editorial of Hindustan Times ends- “...This is a dangerous trend given the enormous disillusionment that people already feel about the democratic process. The greed of a few individuals cannot be allowed to undermine a system that has given India a pre-eminent position in our region, and indeed the world”.  Can one regulate greed? Friends of SARCAJC point out that only big scams make it to the newspapers, while the everyday corruption does not even get a mention, forget bringing culprit to book? There is no continuous follow-up of the ineffective public grievance redressal system or ineffective implementation of Right to Information Act (05), under which the PIO gets away without penalty on the excuse- information not traceable!  On the other hand some newspapers in Hindi are continuing publishing advertisements in the classified section for installing mobile towers on top of residential houses. This is happening despite clear directions from the government against installing mobile towers in residential areas.  The result is obvious- you can observe ugly mobile towers on top of residential houses, playing havoc with public health.  Take a look at a few advertisements that have appeared in Amar Ujala:
Install towers of all companies &... on your roof of land, house, shop. Rent Rs. 40,000, advance 35,00,000, agreement of 30 years..
In 10 days install...digital tower in your land/roof of your house, rent 80,000-90,000+advance 47 lalh+35,000 salary...

Jobless woes: The editorial of Economic Times is going ga-ga with too obvious heading- “India, creator of US jobs: Get used to Greatness”. It ends again in self praise- “...For five decades after independence, Indians looked up to the rest of the world for aid, technology and capital. Now, the world looks upon India as a dynamic creator of jobs and income opportunities...”.  Away from this self admiration, when Obama talks of job creation in his country, Indian Main Street wonders when jobs creation will become a priority in India too.  The growth obsession continues with capital intensive growth. Is this the reason we get to know stale unemployment figures, unalike the weekly updates in the developed world. Tackling Unemployment/underemployment is not on the top most agenda, forget about the concerned about quality of jobs. The much hyped employment guarantee scheme (MNREGA) is creating an army of labours, for unskilled jobs. There is no concept of their skill upgradation here. Moreover the asset created by this unskilled workforce is in question. The growing income inequalities, corruption with growing hunger and consequently malnutrition is taking a toll on the main street. The grim situation is well exploited by dubious advertisement that appears regularly in the classified section of leading newspapers in Hindi. And you can contact them only via mobile number that often changes! Take a look :
Recruitment of clerks for Government job in Railway qualification 10th age 18-30, salary approximately 12000/- get form at home..
For Airport & Delhi metro illiterate –graduate boys/girls computer operator, supervisor, loader, security guard salary-7150-24250+stay+food (direct recruitment) (without interview)...

13 October 2010
Dubious Job advertisements:  Dubious advertisements for highly sought government jobs are making regular appearance in classified section of leading Hindi newspapers.  Given the lure of government job & prevailing unemployment, it is anyone’s guess how many people are getting duped. Take a look at few that have appeared in Amar Ujala:
Recruitment of 6100 clerks by Government Bank for Government job Boys-girls. Qualification-12th 60%. Age18-28, salary Rs.20,000....
Recruitment of clerks by agriculture department for Government job.  Boys-girls. Qualification-10th  Age 18-28, salary Rs.15,000....

IGI airport (direct recruitment illiterate/graduate, boys/girls, supervisor, computer operator, loader, security guard (7000-24500) stay +food+ fund + bonus) without interview...
But why are newspapers accepting such advertisements that are outright fraud? Ideally, their labour correspondent should have exposed this fake job racket and hence saved innocent people in getting in their trap. Hang on, newspapers highlight that they have no responsibility of the contents of any advertisements! View, why labour is not a priority for the Indian newspapers.

The dubious classified advertisements continue to appear in leading Hindi Newspapers, which surely must be duping many innocent people who are seeking jobs. The reason is simple- lure of much sought government jobs is the bait. But why does the newspaper agree to publish such ads? Is there no concept of self regulation? Take look at few such small sized classified ads that carry only phone numbers (mostly mobile) as contact points:

Dubious Advertisements
Dubious c classified advertisements continue to male an appearance in leading Hindi Newspapers. The lure of a government job is the honey trap for innocent job seekers in a country, where solution of unemployment is not a priority area. Unlike the developed countries there is no mechanism in place in India to keep a regular watch on unemployment statistics. The neglect is more obvious as there is no social security in place like the developed countries - a long way for inclusive development. Take a look at few luring classified ads where the only contact is mobile numbers:
Government job recruitment of clerks in agricultural department. Boys-girls. Qualification-tenth, age 18-27 years. Salary -16000...

Advertisement Watch:  SARCAJC has been bringing to light presence of dubious classified advertisements in leading newspapers, promising job recruitment for government jobs including in Metro, Army, Navy, IB etc.  Today, an advertisement has appeared in Times of India by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. This ad ‘Notice’ seems to be lost among several other advertisements on page 17.  It comes with the punch line-“Beware of fake advertisements”.  Read on- “It has come to the notice of DMRC that fake classified advertisements for recruitment are appearing in leading newspapers in Delhi and NCR and other parts of the country. This is handiwork of some unscrupulous elements , who are duping the innocent job searching people...General public is thereby made aware to remain cautious against such fake advertisements...”. Will contents of this ad in English reach the target? Keep guessing as for reasons best known, this ad has not made an appearance in newspapers in Hindi, where such fake advertisements appear regularly.  Even today, one such classified ad has appeared in Amar Ujala. Point to ponder- Why is Delhi Metro not taking regular proactive steps against unscrupulous elements, who are duping the innocent job searching people?

Media Watch: How transparent is the Press Council of India? The special correspondent of Hindu report that members of parliament of Upper House have expressed concern over attempts by Press Council of India to “suppress vital information “on “paid news” and demanded that the government intervenes and makes the 72 page report on ‘paid news’ public. Point to ponder- is hiding contents of a critical report an ideal way of self regulation? Talking on self regulation, dubious classified advertisements continue to make an appearance in leading newspapers in Hindi, with newspapers taking no responsibility of the contents of any advertisements. Today the intelligence Agency of India (IB), Boarder Security Force (BSF), Indian Navy too has appeared in the classified section in Amar Ujala, take a look:

The Impact: ADVERTISEMENTS

Amar Ujala Bureau reports - “Strict law will be made against dubious advertisements: Modi”. Accompanying, the important decision, is Prime Minister of India’s photograph. (27/10/2017)

We are happy that finally a law is in making to curb the menace of dubious, deceptive advertisement that dupes mainstreet.

SARCAJC has been raising this issue since long in regular Newspaper Watch- READ MORE

Mahatma Gandhi on Advertisements:

11 January 2017

SARCAJC has been raising the issue of dubious advertisement that appear in newspapers. Today, an advertisement by Indian Navy has appeared in English in Times of India with heading in bold- “Employment is Indian Navy- Beware of Agents/cheats”. The advertisement starts off- “It has come to the notice that some agents/touts/unsocial elements on pretext to provide employment in the Indian Navy, make upbeat promises about chances of employment….to achieve their end, they use dubious advertisements…to deceive unsuspecting job seekers…”. (11 January 2017). However, the advertisement does not inform where main street can complaint against such dubious advertisements.

15 February 2010

Fake Advertisement
Sudhanshu Mishra reports from Jaipur that that Indian Army is in fix over a fake advertisement that has appeared in a multi-edition leading daily regarding recruitment in the army’s south-western command. A fake letter head of the Jaipur based commander was used to book the ad. The army has sought help from the police to crack this puzzle (Mail Today). However, Sudhanshu Mishra has not disclosed the name of this multi-edition leading daily. According to Jodhpur based army PRO, modus opera in the present case was different from the one adopted by the recruitment racket. Last year too a fake army recruitment racket was busted and two persons were arrested for allegedly duping hundreds of people. It was reported last year that touts, acting as recruiting officers, used to lure candidates willing to join the Indian Army. They used to conduct written tests, medical examinations and issue fake joining letters and charge the candidates for these. (Times of India. 20/7/2009). The same newspaper had reported that army intelligence corp and the Special Task Force of the state police had busted a racket involved in recruitment of jawans in the army through fake documents in connivance with some army servicemen in Zonal Recruitment Office at the Central Command (4/1/04). Point to ponder- as the main street is unable to detect fake currency, how to detect fake advertisements? High time to set up press advertisement bureau to cross check governmental ads before publishing in newspapers?

Dubious advertisements continue to appear in classified section of leading newspapers in India. These are enticing enough to fool the main street.  WHY CANT NEWSPAPER STOP PUBLISHING THEM, AS MAHATMA GANDHI WOULD SUGGEST?

Take a look at few dubious advertisements that have appeared  in Indian Newspapers:

26 June 2011

Most leading newspapers have highlighted that a gang that operated through fake caste certificates to secure admission in Delhi University has been busted. But what newspapers have not highlighted is the fact they operated by placing advertisements in newspapers. Many friends of SARCAJC have questioned why do newspapers accept such dubious advertisement on the first place- why no self regulations here? Even today such ads have appeared in the classified section of a leading newspaper:

8th, 9th fail, do 10th,12th save year BA,B.Com, MBA,MA,M.Com...(mobile nos)

7th, 8th fail, guaranteed pass 10th 12th CBSE/open do BA in one year...(mobile nos)

25 June 2011

Today, Delhi police has exposed a fake admission raket operational in Delhi University. Delhi University is full of eager looking fresher dragging their desperate parents to the notice board displaying cut-out list. But somehow even 95% is low? The admission to favourite college is the biggest worry of a recent 12 pass- out, right? But remember, all is not finished if you don’t get admission to your dream college, the degree you’ll get after 3 years will bear name of Delhi University & not the college. In the long run, the course matters more than the college hype! And last but not the least, your school friends will still be your friends, regardless of your college tag! Only watch out for luring dubious ads that have appeared today in one the the leading newspaper in capital:

8th,9th fail, do 10th,12th save year BA,B.Com, JBT, B.Ed, LLB, BTech...(mobile nos)

The staff reporter of Hindu informs that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has cautioned against agencies that promise jobs in the Delhi metro. This comes in the wake of 'fake' advertisements that appeared in newspaper. The DMRC spokesman explains- " Taking a strong action against a recent advertisement in 'Uttarakhand Rozgar Darshan', where a fake agency with the name of DMRC placement services' had advertised for 2,050 posts in Delhi metro...there are some agencies that are even issuing fake appointment letters in exchange in huge amounts....". Newspapers owes no responsibility of the advertisements it carries, so how would the common man in remote areas know if an ad is genuine or not?
