Extracts from Nasim-i-Agra

Referring to the poverty of India, stated that commerce is the only means by which a country can become rich, as witnessed in case of England & other modern flourishing countries, and that as long as the Indians do not make it an understanding among themselves to use home made articles in preference to foreign ones, there is no chance of their ever ameliorating the condition of their country. Indians had better first try to use only Indian made cloths, and recommends upratan, a kind of stone, to be made into buttons, which will be more beautiful and lasting than those imported at present from foreign countries.
